603 Deploy Research & Strategy to Make the Right LMS Purchasing Decision

Anyone who has ever encountered a learning management system (LMS) knows the importance of making a good purchasing decision. It can have far-reaching, years-long consequences for everyone involved, from vendor to user and everyone in between. So often, the purchase of a learning management system is tactical. What are steps for running a report? What are options for setting up feedback for quizzes? How does the system track completions? Those are indeed critical concerns, but the next level is crucial, too. A good selection team includes leaders with a stregic view who can forecast what the organization will need not just now but in a few years, and who understand how the different parts of the organization work together and how their needs can affect the selection decision.
Host Jane Bozarth, director of research for the Learning Guild and author of our recent LMS research report, “Learning Management Systems 2022: What You Need to Know About Usage & Selection,” is joined by a group of panelists. These leaders have participated in or been privy to the LMS selection and implementation processes in their own organizations. Jane Bozarth, the director of research for The Learning Guild, is a veteran classroom trainer who transitioned to eLearning in the late 1990s and has never looked back. In her previous job as leader of the State of North Carolina’s award-winning eLearning program, Jane specialized in finding low-cost ways of providing online training solutions. She is the author of several books, including eLearning Solutions on a Shoestring, Social Media for Trainers, and Show Your Work: The Payoffs and How-To’s of Working Out Loud. Jane holds a doctorate in training and development and was awarded the Guild Master Award in 2013 for her accomplishments and contributions to the eLearning community.

Before joining Solo.io Brandon was the learning operations manager for Robinhood, overseeing data analytics and project management functions. With a decade of experience in learning and development, Brandon has been a facilitator, an instructional designer, and a leader in various organizations.

Patty Costley is the director of learning and development for PowerDMS. Patty began her training career working in veterinary medicine and developed a passion for learning and development. In that role, she was a two-time winner of the “Field Trainer of the Year” award. In her current role, she is the creator and LMS administrator for PowerDMS University, which provides training for both internal and external customers, and manages a team of instructional designers, training specialists, and content writers. She is passionate about developing fun, impactful learning programs that are carefully created to maximize learning and retention.

Alexa Krezel is a project management professional focused on guiding teams through digital transformation. She has spent more than 20 years aligned to the learning and development industry, bringing her instructional design and change management skills to further the business. Alexa has a master’s degree in instructional design from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Stephanie Stoll is the director of learning and development for the Center for Sales Strategy. Working with subject matter experts and the client experience team, she designs and helps deliver content and services to clients via online training, virtual instructor-led training, and traditional workshops. She is also responsible for internal learning & development and overall learning design strategy for the organization. Stephanie’s background in sales and training combined with her formal education in adult learning drive her to create and deliver impactful user experiences. Prior to joining the Center for Sales Strategy, she had a lengthy and successful career in higher education technology sales. She is also a lecturer at SUNY: Buffalo State.
